Family Displacement Friday
I know it has been quite awhile since my last post, but despite my best intentions for this newsletter/comicstrip, it was necessary for me to step away (albeit a bit abruptly) to focus on maintaining my day job. And although, things seem to be slowly improving here, the resulting burn-out sent me into a state of ADHD-induced ennui, leaving me with little to no energy left for my own creative projects.
Anyway, let’s segue into the subject of this sending. So y’know how they say you should always “put on your own oxygen mask before helping others?” Well, I’ve never been particularly good at doing that. It’s always been easier, somehow, to focus on other people’s needs, which I suppose, is why I started the Cocoons™ campaign in the first place. However, I’ve recently been given an opportunity to try my hand at asking for help for the sake of myself for a change. Just yesterday, my mother received a call from our landlady, saying that she is selling the building. “All good things…”
Now I know that finding available (and affordable) housing for my mother, my younger brother, and myself on such short notice, would be difficult at even the best of times, but Boston is a college town and students have already begun moving in. So while, ideally, I would like to be able to keep my family together, the reality of realty makes this seem less and less likely. I will of course be looking into a variety of options, but my main concern is that my mother be somewhere safe and easily accessible by public transportation. Please feel free to forward this post to your own family and friends, as you never know who may have information that could prove useful.
Also, if you are able, please consider contributing to my personal campaign…
Thanks again.
I will be busy with packing and logistics for the foreseeable future, but I expect to return to making more Cocoon Kits™ in time for ordering well before this year’s Giving Tuesday. Here’s wishing you all an amazing August and I hope to see you back here in September.
